LOS ANGELES (September 28, 2017) – The Parents Television Council applauded Amazon for adding Kid Genius Cartoons Plus to its streaming service but simultaneously called on the company to reconsider charging an additional fee for this programming block. Instead, the PTC suggested that Amazon move to a model similar to Sirius/XM.
“As an add-on to an existing Amazon Prime account, access to Kid Genius Cartoons places an additional financial burden on families. Similar to the model provided by Sirius/XM Satellite Radio, Amazon should offer a family-friendly programming plan that would allow parents to block explicit titles at all times and across all devices, while offering a discounted subscription fee so that concerned families aren’t asked to underwrite explicit, age-inappropriate or potentially-harmful programming,” said PTC President Tim Winter.
“By making these changes, Amazon would become a much more family-friendly environment for the growing legions of cord-cutting parents who are turning to streaming video services for their family entertainment needs. Not only is this an important matter for Amazon’s family subscribers, but we believe it to be in Amazon’s strategic financial interest to do more to keep families interested in its service, and to its family market.”
