• Worst Cable TV Show of the Week: Dating Naked on VH1

by  • July 30, 2015 • Misrated, Sex, Worst Cable Show of the Week • 20 Comments

For exposing viewers to graphic sexual dialogue at only 9:00 p.m. ET – only 8 p.m. Central/Mountain – the Wednesday, July 22nd season 2 premiere of VH1’s Dating Naked

deserves recognition for being the Worst Cable TV Show of the Week.   Any so-called “reality” program which invites its contestants to go on a first date completely naked is obviously prurient on its very face; nor does it really deserve the appellation “reality show.” Nevertheless, this is what the formerly music-centered VH1 network is forcing down the throats of every cable and satellite subscriber in America with Dating Naked…and then rates the program appropriate for 14 year olds, to boot. Inviting the audience, in the words of the episode’s title, to “Strip Down and Buckle Up,” VH1 exposed viewers to dozens of scenes containing visual depictions of sexual behavior and sexual dialogue, like the following:

    •           Kerri and Chris enter the house naked with their privates blurred. As they look around the house their bare butts are exposed. Kerri and Chris drink a shot of alcohol together while naked.

    •           Kerri and Chris each prepare for their next date by taking off their clothes and waiting on the beach. Chris and his new date Jenny introduce themselves to one another while naked. Kerri waits naked on the beach as Norman walks up, also naked. Norman’s bare butt is shown on camera as he walks up to her. Norman bends over to pick up the kayak and his bare butt is exposed. Norman rolls over into the kayak, his bare butt and privates are exposed to the camera.

     •           Jenny discusses her parents’ relationship

     •          Jenny: “I heard my mom give my dad [bleeped blowjobs] through the wall.”

     •           Kerri and Norman jump out of the kayak and go snorkeling while being naked. They both walk out of the water and sit down on the beach while Norman prompts Kerri to try some stretching techniques. Kerri and Norman practice some stretches on the beach while they are naked.

     •           Kerri discusses her last boyfriend.

Kerri: “We were out one night with a bunch of friends and we were making fun of the fact that no one thought he had any game. So I look around the bar and I find a girl who’s really pretty and I’m like go get her number. Not only did he get her number but two days later he shows up at my door, bawling his eyes out to tell me that he slept with this girl. I picked out the girl that my boyfriend cheated on me with.”

     •           Kerri, Norman, Chris, and Jenny walk into the house completely naked. Their bare butts are shown as they walk past the cameras. Jenny spreads her body across the pool table exposing her bare butt. Jenny squeezes her butt cheeks together and places her butt on the edge of the pool table. Jenny begins placing various items in between her breasts and butt cheeks.

     •           The group discusses Norman’s “**ck ring.”

Jenny: “I looked and I thought you had a condom on and I’m like he’s ready.”

Norman: “Like no, no, no. This is called a pressure ring which means that, like, climax, it makes it even more.”

Jenny: “What’s the point of wearing it when you’re not having sex? Because it’s decoration?”

Norman: “Because it’s exercise. No, it’s exercise.”

Chris: “The whole genital jewelry thing. I was like, ‘Is this normal? What the hell’s going on here? What’s this dude thinking?’ ”

     •           Chris stands up and drops his towel, exposing his  privates.

     •           Louie: “It’s pretty cool to be out here, balls swinging in the breeze on an island paradise.”

     •           Angie: “ I’m looking for a man, not a bitch.”

     •           Louie: “She [bleeped f**king] looks like a water buffalo. I mean, come on. Get the [bleeped f**k] outta here.”

     •           Jenny: “Let’s shake hands after I smashed my tits on you….I’m gonna follow the d*ng.”

It’s bad enough that VH1 has abandoned all sense of propriety and taste, and is now blatantly begging for viewers with so prurient a premise as “dating naked;’ but it’s downright disgusting that the network would rate such a program as appropriate for 14 year old children. For pushing its trash into living rooms – and forcing every pay-TV subscriber to subsidize it – VH1’s Dating Naked is the Worst Cable TV Show of the Week.

Totally disgusting pornographic show “Dating Naked” Why is it aired at 6:30pm on a Sunday. Was on for the whole day on New Year’s day 2015 from about 8am to 9:30pm. Why can’t it be cancelled and taken off the air?

Shows like this reveal an utter lack of talent and imagination on the part of its so called writers and creators. If they had any talent or class for that matter, they wouldn’t be pushing this trash on the American public. How do you feel VH1 to be to selling filth? I’m sure you think it’s “groundbreaking” to have people parading around naked using gutter language. Your parents must be so proud. (That’s dripping with sarcasm and disgust for you pea brained Hollywood types).

Oh, for creativity to produce a light-hearted family entertainment program. Americans are ready to smile and laugh in these difficult days when TV programming is going downhill. Some have refused to watch TV and others have gotten rid of their sets. Many of us long for good stories or programs where something of significance can be learned along with our children and grandchildren.

Nakedness is not beneficial to anyone and violates especially the Bible admonition to not look upon nakedness.
We are becoming a nation without scruples or a moral foundation. Our children and young people deserve more.

No business establishment should even consider advertising on programs with morals such as Dating Naked.

Another disgusting program we have to contend with. I don’t think the producers even know how to produce a good family show that all can watch together. I can’t imagine adults wanting to watch this garbage. Someone mentioned they have controls to block these shows from coming into their living rooms. That’s is fine and good but the point is many parents won’t do this and is just disturbing what is happening to society today. This is the point. Also, parents aren’t around constantly to watch what their kids are watching, especially as they get a little older. It is degrading and just not right for even older teens to be watching shows like this. There is such a thing as decency. What is happening to it??

Dating Naked is probably one of the WORSE programs ever put on TV. My wife and I are about to pull the plug on TV completely except for NEWS and a few programs I see more garbage than ever. The language is atrocious now with profanity almost everywhere.

This is why I don’t have cable TV. There is enough trash on my antenna TV, that’s why I usually watch DVD’s instead. If enough people who care about this issue would stick together and refuse to pay for Cable until they clean it up, then something could be done. As long as people keep paying for it, it will continue. You have to hit them where it hurts, their pocketbooks!! It’s a sad day when people try and push this nudity, violence and perversion on others. I’m here to tell you, it’s a heart problem. If people were really disciples of Jesus (allowing Jesus to control their hearts), they wouldn’t make these ugly movies, participate in them or sit down and watch them. People need to keep in mind that we all are going to give an account to God one day for every idle word we speak and what we look at and what we do. No one can get away from God’s ALL SEEING EYE. He is our Judge and He loves us all but He will not wink at sin, but will judge it. One day everyone will get exactly what we deserve. We have to live in this world but not of the world. Choices matter. There are consequences for all of them! Some good and some not good at all. There is a price to pay for doing wrong. Sin will take us where we never meant to go, cost us more than we meant to pay and keep us longer than we meant to stay! God help these stations to just do the right thing and protect our children and grandchildren!

I disagree about “Dating Naked” being the worst show on TV. I watched it all of once (with a date) and actually found it thoroughly boring. I don’t watch TV at all any more (and recently scaled back to a minimum cable TV package, for use during local/national emergencies only), but “Dating Naked” isn’t why.

Rather I find any and all shows about serial killers to be infinitely worse. So prevalent is the “serial killer” image in our society that now I find people much more suspicious about and less friendly toward each other. Contrary to the garbage on TV, serial killers are still less than one-in-a-million, and people should be much more wary of car crashes, cigarettes, and even drowning, which kill far more Americans every year.

Police shows used to be about the cops (“Hawaii 5-0″, “The Rookies”, “The Rockford Files”, “ChiPs”, even “Miami Vice”, etc.). Now they’re much more focused on graphic sex crime torture, etc., which is why I no longer watch them at dinner time, nor at any other time.

Also, all the foul toxic refuse about vampires, zombies, vomit (seen frequently on TV now), tattoos, piercings, etc., is another reason why my TV no longer gets turned on (unless possibly if I put on an instructional/educational video, but virtually never anything broadcast– I get my news via the web).

“Dating Naked” I find reasonably inoffensive for consenting adults. Obviously 12-year-olds don’t need to see it or be anywhere near it, but as long as it’s audience-appropriate, I just don’t think it’s that harmful. Note I did not read even the full description of it above, as I’m just not interested in whether someone canoed naked or not; however, were some co-worker of mine to have watched TV last night, much as I’d prefer they watch something– anything– educational, I would far prefer it to be something like “Dating Naked” than to be something about vampires, serial killers, vomit, tattoos, or the like, which are far more mentally harmful, anti-social in the infinite extreme, and disgusting.

THAT is what’s the worst toxic waste on TV.

Stop using your “shock factor” as a substitute for talent and imagination to produce good TV, which I’m sure you can.

To the promoters of America’s downward public-morals slide:

Your desperate grasp for attention leaves you repugnant to all Americans who know what modesty and purity represent for both the individual and society. You are down there with the filthiest elements of humanity.

I am so THOROUGHLY disgusted with all the naked shows on TV.!!!!!! At this time the carrier I have is running THREE different programs!!!! Do you wonder why the world is suffering from so many tragic events? God is telling us, unsuccessfully it seems, that we need to change the lifestyles. Watching naked people wander through woods, etc., is definitely not my idea of entertainment!!!!! And what is this teaching the young children and young adults? The media is setting such poor examples. Thank heaven for books since there are many evenings that my TV is turned off since there are so few programs that are actually entertaining. Please do what you can to influence people to sign petitions for these to be removed as they are pure pornographic!!!! Urge companies to boycott by refusing to sponsor them.
And, most of all, PRAY! PRAY! PRAY1

Enough already on all this kind of garbage that is put on our TV and time that Cable and Satellite put a stop to this kind of shows? Too many kids watching and hard to monitor all these horrible shows? If people want to watch this kind of garbage make it where you pay for it not put it right out there for too many of our young people. Why I just thanked Hallmark for having on shows I can enjoy to watch and be able to watch with friends and family today? Watch much on GPB and BBC also for the shows okay for adults and use your brain. Time to get back to good television and not so much of this let it all hang out. I am not a prude I am a nurse and have taken care of all kinds of nude bodies but this is not just bein g nude. Overkill now on sexuality. Enjoy your own sex life and leave it off open TV for younger kids to see?

It’s a shame there are writers, producers and directors who do not have enough creativity to come up with a show that can hold someone’s attention without using cheap sex as the hook. It’s super easy to write smut including shocking behavior and dialog than it is to write something with substance that can capture a person’s attention and draw them in. I hope someday the people involved with the show Dating Naked can look back and be ashamed of their contribution to the disgusting behavior our country is becoming known for. This also goes for any of the companies who are allowing their ads to run during this programming.

One of the advantages of having DISH network is being able to block channels. As soon as I read your newsletter article about this disgusting show, I blocked VH1 from my lineup. That is how my family responds to the filth they keep throwing at us. I have dozens of channels blocked. Once they are blocked, we never go back to see if they have improved. We have so many other decent choices there is just no reason to have to monitor them for what garbage they come up with next!

@Susan: As wonderful as the block method is, you are still supporting this program and countless others because of the way DISH (and all other cable/satellite providers) package programming. The monetary support keeps this trash alive and we all need to keep on complaining until we are finally heard. Our ultimate sacrifice will be “cutting the cord” if that is what it will take!
