• PTC Applauds Fox Network’s Cancellation of “The Mick” and Renewal of “Last Man Standing”

The Parents Television Council welcomed the news that Fox Broadcasting canceled “The Mick,” that for two seasons consistently marketed adult content to children and routinely put child characters in extremely adult situations. The PTC also heralded the return of “Last Man Standing” to the airwaves, which it called for almost a year ago.

Episodes of “The Mick” featured child characters “sexting,” discussing child pornography, and having threesomes; the show has also promoted drinking and drug use, among other adult content, and was rated as appropriate for children.

“Following last year’s Network Upfront presentations, we called on Fox to cancel its edgy sitcom ‘The Mick’ and replace it with the family-friendly hit series ‘Last Man Standing.’ Although it took a year longer than it needed to, we are heartened to learn that Fox has delivered this very solution for families concerned about toxic programming on the public airwaves,” said PTC President Tim Winter.

“Every TV network should view the commercial failure of ‘The Mick’ as an important learning opportunity. Hollywood cannot applaud and embrace the #MeToo era while simultaneously asking its audience to be amused and entertained by the same repulsive behavior that spawned the movement to begin with. Even worse, ‘The Mick’ was using its child actors to deliver much of the most sexualizing program content.

“The Fox Broadcast Network invested heavily to help promote ‘The Mick.’ But as the national viewing audience became increasingly aware of the program’s
disturbing themes, fewer and fewer people watched. And by our last count, more than 40 corporations ceased their advertiser support for the show after being
contacted by the PTC and its members. We applaud those corporate sponsors for demonstrating their social responsibility.

“While ‘Last Man Standing’ may not be squeaky-clean, the show’s content is far more appropriate for a primetime broadcast viewing audience. Today we publicly thank Fox for making this programming decision, and we call on all of the television networks to keep families in mind as they make programming decisions for the upcoming season.”

I believe this show is for the good. You people want to demand Netflix to cancel a show that deals with the real problems that are children face in school this show doesn’t promote school shootings. school shootings and are children being raped has been going on way before this show even aired I think it’s better to face reality then hide behind it. Sorry you all don’t want to face the truth

James is talking about the content in the show 13 Reasons Why, not The Mick nor Last Man Standing.

I just read on Variety that Barack Obama has signed a production deal with Netflix. The former POTUS himself was a Democrat, just like Frank Underwood from House of Cards(which was Netflix’s first original series). Now, I’m worried that all Netflix originals from Obama will be nothing but Democratic propaganda disguised as “entertainment”. Should I be right to be suspicious?

This only happened because Disney bought Fox. And you made it sound like Disney buying FOX was going to mean FOX would destroy Disney. Disney clearly has the upper hand here.

I thought the Disney/Fox sale was *still* pending before the Department of Justice and the FTC.

If not, when did the sale take place?

I checked on both Wikipedia and The Verge.com earlier today.

The Disney/Fox merger is *still* under review by the Justice Department and the FTC and is therefore *still* pending; no actual purchase has been consummated yet. (I think the merger *could* be denied on antitrust grounds, from what I gathered from the Verge article.)

Speaking of the Disney/Fox merger, shareholders from both companies held a meeting on July 27 to approve the merger. If approved by all international regulators, the deal could be completed by the first half of 2019.

Thank you PTC for your efforts to get rid of the filth on TV. The Mick was a horrible influence on children. I too, applaud the advertisers for not sponsoring it. I trust Last Man Standing will do much, much better for Fox.

I agree with your statement, Dan. I never watch “The Mick”! I had no respect for FOX and other major networks by putting and airing smut in Prime Time TV of today!

Last Man Standing has always been my favorite. The script and the actors are great. Kudos to Fox for bringing it back.

Last Man Standing is not anime, it is a family sitcom.

Funny that you applaud people lossing their jobs. I’d rather have The Mick than Last Man Standing. The Mick was actually funny. Hopefully FX picks it up.

Also commercial failure? It actually got decent ratings and reviews. That’s not a failure at all.

I hope FX picks it up too, considering the fact that all of their shows are rated TV-MA. A TV-MA rating would do wonders for The Mick. It would give them more freedom for adult themes and/or content. It would also eliminate the PTC’s ability to file FCC complaints about The Mick. FX is a cable network and Fox is an OTA network. FX and Fox are owned by the same company. FX also has It’s Always Sunny which has the same actress as The Mick. It would make a good comedy block on FX.

We don’t need more shows with “adult” (trashy) themes exploiting children. Put it in the rubbish bin where it belongs.

Adult smut and trashy things destroying children’s innocence including the child actors on “The Mick.” And I agree with you, Trisha. That rubbish must be tossed in the trash can where it belongs! We don’t want that sleaze to be in prime time television anymore! We’re fed up with it!

A show that is so horrible for society let alone for children I am not too ashamed in applauding for the cancellation of the show. Hopefully these individuals that have lost their jobs will put their talent where they can be proud of!
